Benahavis. (With coach) 20 mins

Benahavis is a beautiful mountain village. A historically Moorish village filled with ruins and stones. Only 7 km inland. You take the road from San Pedro, of the Coast between Marbella and Estepona and drive up in the mountain road, into the village which offers you a panoramic and breathtaking view of the whole Coast.
Nestled in the mountains, 500 metres above sea level, this charming, white village of Benahavis is lying between the Sierra de Palmerita and Sierra Bermeja and crossed by three rivers. There is a profusion of pines, chestnuts and corn oaks, surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation.

The village has become very popular -. It has several new developments which are popping up all the time. In spite of this, the village is remained remarkably unspoiled, with the winding narrow streets with huge parking problem, typical in the Pueblos Blancos (white villages) in Andalucia. The other side of town nestling nearby the old quarter consists of white washed houses and narrow winding roads, has been managed to maintain its quaint village feel.

Benahavis is known for tree things. Their fabulous gastronomy, the golf courses and for the beautiful area Las Angosturas.

Gastronomy in Benahavis

It has over 30 top-class restaurants, the highest concentration of high class restaurants in Marbella region and it draws visitors by the thousand who comes simply to savor the cuisine, it has also a multitude of Spanish tapas bars of excellent quality should a light snack be preferred. Prices are depended on witch restaurant you eat at, but it will always be good value for money.

We recommend L’Escalera de Manolo for a very enjoyable night – great food in a relaxed atmosphere and the unique attention of your host Manolo who will entertain you throughout the evening.

In the old town of Estepona, next to the famous Plaza de las Flores, La Casa del Rey opened on 5 December 2012. This gastro bar is ideal if you fancy trying some authentic Spanish tapas and it also has some superb wines. This is the perfect place to bring a group as you will get to sample a wide selection of their delightful food.

LA ESCOLLERA, Estepona Port

La Escollera in Estepona is most definitely off the tourist track but it is becoming a little more widely known among the more discerning. Drive down to the port area and at the red barriers explain to the very pleasant security guy on duty that you want the ‘restaurante La Escollera’ and he will let you in and out without charge. Drive through and down towards the left and the restaurant is facing you.

The restaurant lies in the heart of the puerto pesquero (fishing port) at the top of an unpretty and rather shingly beach. However, it was never intended as a tourist attraction and there is the consolation that the sparkling Mediterranean lies only a few metres away. It is essentially a workers’ restaurant but the management have cottoned on to the fact that some visitors find it and offer English, German and French copies of the menu as well as Spanish.

La Escollera is a fish restaurant and offers quite an amazing choice. There are sword fish and rooster fish, sea bass, bream, sole, squid, crab, anchovies, red mullet, prawns, cod, mackerel, hake, whiting, sardines (grilled with almonds), shrimps, snails, tuna, on offer in a veritable feast of ‘la fruits de mer’.

The eating area is set out behind the bar. It is quite large and basic with plastic chairs and tables and cheap paper tablecloths; but it is scrupulously clean and the service is quick and efficient.

LA TRAVIATA, Duquesa Port

This beautiful restaurant located in the centre of Puerto de la Duquesa has become the absolute favourite among many satisfied guests. It has a reputation of friendly, efficient service, focusing on fresh local ingredients in their dishes. It is highly recommended for the steak connoisseur.
