La Reserva Golf Club opened in 2003 where American architect Cabell B. Robinson designed 18 unique holes into the hillside above Sotogrande. The layout uses the natural elevation of the property to create spectacular views while delivering a course that rewards smart golf over power. How the golf course plays
At 6,950 metres from the back tees the course is a proper test. Robinson built width into several fairways off the tee, but the second shots demand precision. Water comes into play on several key holes and the greens are quick (Bermuda grass), with contours that will cost you shots if you are not paying attention.
Hole 8 is a long par 4 where water lines the entire right side from tee to green. Hole 15, rated the best par 3 on the course, presents a three-tiered green with water on two sides and three bunkers in the mix. Hole 18 closes with a tight tee shot and an elevated green that punishes anything short or offline.
From the white tees the course measures 6,246 metres to a par of 72. The elevation variations across the property mean club selection matters on every approach. Bring your A game or be prepared to grind.
Conditioning and the facilities
La Reserva Sotogrande holds a Platinum Clubs of the World designation for 2025 and carries a GEO Certified sustainability certification. Fairways and greens are maintained to a standard that matches what you would expect at a professional tournament venue.
The Golf Academy at La Reserva is led by Spanish legend Manuel Pinero Sanchez, with lessons available for golfers of all ages and abilities. The clubhouse was built in the style of a traditional Andalusian Cortijo and sits at the top of the hill with views stretching towards Gibraltar and the Moroccan coastline on a clear day. The Pro Shop runs seven days a week from 8am to 7pm.
The Aramco Team Series
La Reserva de Sotogrande has hosted the Aramco Team Series and continues to attract high-level amateur and corporate golf events throughout the year. Tournament golf at this level proves course quality better than any ranking alone.
